Tourist destinations in Antarctica 2012

Sunday, I woke up with this shock on tourism, as more are on the lips of more people and companies using terms like sustainability, responsibility, balance, Etc.Seguimos developed an ambivalent attitude about many things, of them is obviously tourism, I give you the following article on tourism in Antarctica:
Until a few years ago, Antarctica was a unique destination for scientists and adventurers. The only uninhabited continent on the planet received in 1904 the first research teams, which have since been able to develop their work in perfect harmony with the environment.
A century later, the area has reached large-scale tourism, and it has to stay. The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators estimated that each year 50,000 people visit the area, but researchers working on the continent show that can reach 70,000. The scientific community is against that field visits, but warned that the lack of control over this trade may end up unbalancing the fragile ecosystem. As a precaution, it calls for regulation of the sector.
Antarctica is the southernmost in the world. Practically coincides with the Arctic Circle and has 14 million square kilometers of land and ice shelf. For now you can only see a bit of land in coastal areas during the austral summer, so the tourist season is between November and March, when almost no night.
The most visited areas of the continent in the Ross Sea, where they go cruises departing from New Zelda and Australia and the Antarctic Peninsula, which is the continuation of the Americas. The Argentine port of Ushuaia focuses almost all the tourist activity that covers the area, but Chile has recently announced that it will intensify its efforts to exploit this target.
From the tip of the southern cone ships sail in two days to reach Antarctica. The Drake Passage is the path required for cruises that cover this route, which usually stop at the volcanic Deception Island, which is open to the public baths. Excursions may include visits to scientific bases, but the increased interest of tourists in their nature.
Although the coast is impressive ice formations on the routes tend to highlight the Niemeyer and Le Maier Channel, Paradise Bay and Grenache Strait. In the last two places you can watch whales. And, in addition to the frozen landscape, those who make the journey may see animal’s characteristic of this area, such as lions, elephant seals, Weddell seals and crab, and different kinds of birds, including at least six types of penguins.
