Archaeological Tourism in Mexico gives us a vast amount of historical sites that were once prominent centers of Mayan civilization, which today make up a thematic route must-go. One example is the archaeological site of Uxmal, located about 80 km from Merida and is considered by many experts in history and archeology, as the “architectural jewel of the Yucatan.”

This archaeological site covers about 1 square mile in area, where we see the buildings of limestone in the style Puce smooth with low walls that open on ornate friezes based representations of typical Mayan huts.
There, in the ancient Mayan city stands the Pyramid of the Magician, where guided tours usually begin by. It consists of five superimposed temples of different periods, with an elliptical base, stands almost 35 meters high, so that to reach the top is necessary to climb 150 steep steps which are flanked by masks of Chic.
Behind the Pyramid of the Magician, on a platform at various levels there are the Patio de lass Honjas, also known as the Convent. This area is surrounded by buildings that have a large number of rooms opening onto the patio. In Uxmal can also see the field of play the ball, but rather run, shows two parts that make up the sides of the court and where were the rings by which they must enter the ball.
Another site is the Governor’s Palace is 100 meters long and consists of three separate bodies; the center is a rectangular building that has fourteen affordable houses, 11 of them from abroad. Near this building a small structure appears simple, decorated with small figures of turtles, so it has been called the Casa de lass Tortugas.
