A Couple’s Weekend in Sydney
Couples planning a trip to Australia should consider it’s largest city, Sydney. Inhabited by over 4.5 million people, you’d think it was some over-crowded destination, but its unique city design allows for vast metropolitan areas coupled neatly with intimate and romantic areas with beautiful views.
Ghost tours
You’re likely to begin your trip in Sydney near harbour side quarter where it all began. You can take your loved one here and find an excuse to cosy up together by taking one of the ghost tours along the Harbour, hearing of the famous convict history of Australia.
Harbour hugging and site-seeing
With the two of you clinging to each other after the spooky ghost tour, you should follow the harbour along to its numerous beautiful sites, such as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which offers spectacular lit-up views at night time, and stunning sunshiny landscape scenes in the day time. There are lots of ways you and your loved one can take in the views, so take your pick. If you’re an adrenaline fuelled couple, try kayaking under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. If you’re hands on, charter a yacht and take a pleasant sailing trip around the area. If however, you’re after a relaxing drink, some food and some conversation, you can opt for a ferry ride to take you around the best views of the city’s harbour area.
The best areas for bars and eateries
If you’re after some bars or restaurants around the area, check out Glebe, Newtown or Balman for the best of what’s on offer, perfect for an intimate night enjoying each other’s company and the great food and drinks Sydney has to offer. You’re likely to find cuisines from around the world so all tastes will be catered to, including the visual, with so many beautiful sites around to enjoy.
The next day, why not check out some of Sydney’s famous beaches, such as Bondi Beach, a short bus ride from the harbour area. Depending on your level of activity seeking, you can simply sit and relax in the lush beaches with a picnic and some drinks or do a little more such as taking in a couple of surf lessons. (How could you possibly avoid surfing while in Australia?!).
Wine Country
If the sun and surf has left you somewhat parched, why not check out Sydney’s famous wine regions. You can hire a car, take a bus or join a tour to the vineyards in Hunter Valley, where there are some 120 wineries in the area. Here, you can opt to walk around, cycle or even go by horse drawn carriage for a special touch! You can also try your hand at cooking lessons as well as get samples of the local produce.
Shopping
Heading back to the Harbour area, you should check out the various funky cafes and vintage clothes shops where you can pick up a gem, for yourself or for your loved ones. If you’re paying for your items on card, rather than cash, compare credit cards on offer to check out if there are any credit card rewards on offer from your purchases. You may end up with a few extra gifts and some even more savings than you expected. Maybe even a few extra air miles for a second romantic trip!
